I really want to stay
at your house.

Night City keeps everything it touches. It never got this couch, this window, or the two people on it. For a little while, this was the only address in the world that mattered.

01 · the dream

Where she took him first.

Lucy catching David's wrist on the NCART, the Night City metro map glowing behind them
the NCART // where it started

Before the crew, before the chrome, Lucy took a kid she'd just met on the NCART up to her apartment, plugged him in, and dove with him to the only place she'd ever wanted to go. No corpos. No Arasaka. No one watching. She said it like it was nothing. He heard it like it was everything.

It wasn't real. It was still the truest thing either of them had.the dive · episode 02

02 · the promise

She wanted the moon. He wanted her to have it.

David heard the dream once and never put it down. After Maine, after the crew became his, every gig, every eddie, every implant he couldn't afford and took anyway. All of it was a ticket with her name on it.

He never told her the cost. That's the thing about promises in Night City: the person who makes them always pays first.

03 · stay

One night that was theirs.

The song isn't about the moon. It's about the apartment. About the version of her that stopped sleeping with one eye open. About wanting someone to stay so badly you don't say it out loud, because saying it makes it something the city can take.

For a few episodes, they got to be two kids with a window and a view. That was the whole dream, really. The moon was just where they put it so no one could reach.

04 · the breaking

He came apart. She held on anyway.

The chrome took him piece by piece. The Sandevistan, then the arms, then the Cyberskeleton he climbed into to go get her out of Arasaka Tower. By the end there was more Arasaka in him than David. She was the only one who kept reaching for what was left.

You don't hold someone like that because you think it'll save them. You hold them because letting go is the one thing you can't do.

He was already gone. Her arms hadn't heard yet.episode 10
05 · the moon, again

She made it. The seat beside her is still his.

Same moon. Same Earth. Same silence she showed him on night one. He told her, right at the end, that he'd never make it there but she would. So she went. Staying in that apartment without him was its own kind of dying.

Wait a moment. David isn't there. Lucy carries the promise alone.

Wait a moment. David isn't there. Lucy carries the promise alone.

He took her to the moon.
She's still waiting at the door.

That's the whole emotion of it. Not the Sandevistan, not the fall, not the fight. A boy who kept one promise, and a girl who keeps the song on repeat because some doors you never stop listening for.

David + Lucy = forever
the run · ten episodes

How it actually went.

Spoilers, obviously. If you haven't watched it, close this and go. It's ten episodes on Netflix, and you can finish it in one night. Then come back.

  1. 01Arasaka Academy, a mother scavenging chrome to keep him there. A crash on the highway. Gloria doesn't make it.
  2. 02Her Sandevistan goes into his spine. A girl on the NCART clocks the Sandevistan, then takes him home and shows him the moon.
  3. 03Maine's crew. First real gig. Lucy, Rebecca, Pilar, Kiwi, Dorio, Falco. A family, for a while.
  4. 06Maine goes cyberpsycho. Dorio, then Maine. David walks out of it as the one holding the crew together.
  5. 07A year later. More chrome than anyone should carry. Lucy stops running jobs and won't say why.
  6. 08Why: she's been hunting Arasaka netrunners in the dark so they never find him. Kiwi sells them out anyway.
  7. 09Faraday takes Lucy. David climbs into the Cyberskeleton knowing exactly what it will do to him.
  8. 10Arasaka Tower. Rebecca, then Adam Smasher. He gets Lucy out. He tells her she'll make it to the moon without him. She does.
